Don’t want to say goodbye to the summer? Neither do we! Whilst we can’t change the seasons, we can help you fight the winter blues with just a few simple updates to your interior decor. Although we’ll soon be spending a lot more time indoors rather than in the garden, that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to enjoy the benefits of nature from inside our homes. With a little creativity, bringing the outside in is easy. Why not get started with these simple but effective design hacks?
Add Greenery & Flowers (A Lot Of Them!)
Why not turn your living space into an outdoor oasis this Autumn/Winter? Adding greenery and flowers into your home is an easy fix for bringing the outside in, with minimum effort and maximum impact. Don’t want to be bogged down with tons of watering? Faux pot plants and dried flowers work convincingly in bringing a touch of the natural world into your very own living room. Alternatively, you could use a combination of both faux options and the real deal. Finish your displays with elegant pots and planters of your choice to complete your natural haven.
Emphasise Natural Textures & Materials
Texture is crucial when it comes to achieving that whimsical, outdoorsy feel that you want from natural inspired decor. When we say natural textures, we’re talking about wood, stone, rattan, clay (the list goes on). It’s all about choosing earthy textures and bringing them to the forefront throughout your home. This can be through furniture, such as introducing a statement rattan coffee table, or wooden seating options like the Bergen dining bench. Ornaments and decorative items will also play a big part. Woven storage baskets are perfect for bringing the outside in, and can also double up as rustic planters.
Use Rattan Furniture
As we just mentioned, rattan is one of the main textures that comes to mind when we think of natural decor. Of course, rattan reminds us of garden furniture, however its rustic element is what gives it that earthy and natural feel. Using rattan furniture inside your home is a great way of bringing the outside in, whilst also enabling you to maximise use of the furniture you invest in. In other words, you can use rattan furniture outside during the summer, and choose a few pieces to bring inside as winter sets in. Rattan bistro sets blend perfectly in conservatories, whilst statement items such as the indoor-come-outdoor Dallington rattan lounge chair, are perfect for incorporating among your greenery and natural textures.
Enhance Natural Light
One of the things that we miss most about the summer is the sunshine and longer hours of daylight. In order to make your home feel a little brighter once summer has come to an end, it’s important to invite as much natural light into your living space as possible. This starts with ensuring that all your window spaces are as clear as possible by making sure there’s no furniture in the way or any large ornaments on the window sill that might be blocking the light out. However, the next most important trick? Placing mirrors opposite or adjacent to the window. The natural light is always enhanced when mirrors are tactically placed, (also a great hack for making small rooms look bigger!).
Tone Down Your Colour Palette
Choice of colour also plays a huge role in bringing the outside in. When thinking of natural-inspired decors, hot pinks and neon greens aren’t the first colours that spring to mind. In order to create a coherent outdoorsy-inspired decor scheme, it’s best to stick to more neutral and earthy colour palettes. Think soft tans, greys, browns and deep greens if you’re going for a forest-inspired theme. A good way to choose colours is to think about how the interior of your home blends into the outdoor space. With this in mind, plenty of soft browns with a few hints of soft green are likely to be your go-to when deciding on how to bring the outdoors in.
