Home can feel like a small space sometimes, especially when you may be working from home and spending more time at home than you usually would. But fear not! There are a few simple tricks you can do with indoor furniture to transform your home and make it feel more spacious.
Choose Furniture With Plenty Of Storage
It can be easy to simply pick out the best looking piece of indoor furniture, and forget about what its function is within the home. That is why at Inside Out Living our mission is to solve your storage struggles with our fabulous storage solutions. Easy pieces of furniture to incorporate within your home that has nifty storage is our range of sideboards, which is really versatile and can be you anywhere in and around the home. Whether you need a little extra space in your bedroom or somewhere to hide the school bags in the hallway! Another great piece of indoor furniture to consider is media units. A media unit is a great way to showcase your TV and is an item of furniture that you look at least once a day! We would recommend a media unit that has drawers or mini cupboards to hide away the random wire and remote controls.
Mirrors, Mirrors, Mirrors
Next up on our list of tips on making your home feel bigger is mirrors! Unfortunately, this isn’t just so you can have a look at yourself and check your hair in every room (sigh!) Mirrors are a superb way of creating an optical illusion of space in a room. Use a focal point and angle your mirrors toward it to give the illusion of depth. Although that may seem a little complicated, it could be as easy as placing a simple wall mirror above a mantlepiece or large item of furniture that takes up a lot of space, such as a sideboard or dining room table. You should also consider a full-length mirror and placing it in an area of your home that may not feel as light and airy as you would like. For example, a full-length mirror in a hallway would work perfectly, not only to double-check your outfit before leaving – but to reflect the light around the room and make it appear bigger. Mirrors also reflect both natural and artificial light to make a room brighter during the day and night. Therefore anywhere you can squeeze a mirror, we’d definitely recommend.
Have A Declutter
We are guilty of accumulating too many nicknacks over the years, but this does not mean that they need to be showcased in every inch of the home. Home decor is all down to personal taste, but if you are looking to create more space you may need to pull the accessories back a notch to achieve this. If you are not a minimalist, you do not have to force yourself to be, why not pick your swap around your decorative items and change them every few months? This way they can all be seen and appreciated – but they do not necessarily have to be out on show at the same time.
Why not also take the time to have a declutter of that cupboard you’ve been meaning to look through for a few months? Or that wardrobe that may be getting a little too full? Create space for new items and give to charity or rehome the items that may not be getting as much love as they deserve. We promise that a simple declutter will make your mind and home feel more spacious!
Opt For Light Interiors
To create the illusion of a bigger space, the overall interior of the room needs to be light and airy. We’d recommend avoiding using colours on the walls that are dark or wallpaper that is full of pattern. Instead, think about colours such as white or cream. A way of giving the room a pop of colour, whilst also ensuring it feels big, is to add colour through soft furnishings. Adding a beautifully patterned cushion or throw to a sofa for a pop of character.
Avoid Oversized Furniture
To achieve your goal of making your home feel bigger with indoor furniture, you should be avoiding oversized furniture at all costs. Instead, choose furniture that will fit the room and fit what is needed for you. For example, choose a dining room set with the number of seats that are needed for you – swap out the 8 seater table if there are four of you and go for a table that fits for what is needed rather than what fills the most space. Dining room furniture in your home should be practical, but not drown the room.
